These days, there are finally some less expensive options for OLED gaming monitors. But if you want to save the most cash and get the best value, consider upping your initial spending to something bigger.
Take this oversized ultrawide from LG, for example. Though the retail price for the 39-inch OLED is an eye-watering $1,500, you can find Amazon selling it for just $892.74 today. That’s 40 percent off!
The LG UltraGear 39GS95QE is similar to a lot of smaller 34-inch gaming monitors, with a semi-standard 3440×1440 resolution that has become so popular lately. But with a generous bump up to 39 inches and a super-speedy 240Hz refresh rate, it’s a definite winner over something like the Alienware OLEDs. A generous curve and stylish base sure don’t hurt, either, nor does compatibility with Nvidia’s G-Sync.
This monitor is missing a few of the most premium options, with no USB-C video to augment its DisplayPort and double HDMI inputs. In fact, the only other expansion you get is a pair of USB-A ports and a headphone jack for your gaming headset. But unless you’re running a gaming laptop as your primary machine, the lack of video and charging over USB-C might not be a deal-breaker.
Best Buy has this particular model in stock at many brick-and-mortar locations, so you might be able to pick it up lickety-split if you’re in the mood to upgrade for a gaming session this weekend… but it’s going to cost extra at about $1,000. That’s also true on LG’s web store. You’re better off nabbing it on Amazon for $892.74 if you can.
